59th Gp Palio del Recioto postponed

Negrar di Valpolicella (Vr), 9 March 2020 - As a consequence of the recent developments of the Coronavirus contagion and in agreement with the municipal administration of Negrar di Valpolicella (Vr), Valpolicella B.E.S.T. has decided to postpone the 59th Gp Palio del Recioto - Trofeo C&F Resinatura Blocchi scheduled for Tuesday 14 April.

As of today, in fact, the conditions do not exist to guarantee what is foreseen by the recent Decrees of the President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic, and to guarantee the safeguard of public health and safety of all the people involved, the organisers of the traditional Easter Tuesday race, reserved for the Under 23s, have decided to postpone the 2020 event.

The decision was announced by the number one of Valpolicella B.E.S.T., lawyer Alessandro Comin Chiaramonti: "The Palio del Recioto represents a beautiful tradition for Valpolicella and for the whole cycling world that has always gathered in Negrar on the Tuesday after Easter to experience a day of great cycling. Unfortunately, the rampant Coronavirus infection is forcing us to take extraordinary measures because public health comes first. Ours is a festival and we want it to continue to be so: for this reason, and also to give the public that comes to Negrar from all over the world for this event, we felt it was essential to postpone it".

The request to change the date has already been sent by Valpolicella B.E.S.T. to the UCI through the FCI. "At a time like this all that remains is to roll up our sleeves and work in the same direction. In spite of this change of date we are already committed to guaranteeing a 2020 edition of the Gp Palio del Recioto - Trofeo C&F Resinatura Blocchi up to the standard of the tradition of our race. As soon as we receive confirmation of the new date from the UCI, we will announce it and give an appointment to all the fans and lovers of cycling and good wine for a day that will once again be unforgettable and full of passion," concluded the president of Valpolicella B.E.S.T.
