The Polisportiva CSI Valpolicella can be reasonably satisfied. The organization of the "XII Gran Premio del Recioto" was impeccable. The choice of the route (three laps for a total of 90 kilometers) with an "intelligent" climb of five kilometers through the villages of Lake, Prun and Fane, seemed very appropriate, as well as the goodness of the rich prizes and the large number of participants. In fact, at the start there were about eighty competitors. If we then consider the immense crowd that thronged the streets, enthusiastic and happy, not forgetting the weekday, we must conclude in all sincerity that the hopes have gone beyond any timid forecast.
So it was a great race and for such a "full-bodied" race there had to be a worthy winner. And Mario Da Ros, yesterday's winner, was the authentic champion. The strongest and best prepared won, so no doubts or reservations. If we exclude a first moment in which the winner was not present, we can say that from the second lap the man from Treviso was never missing and in the stretches and in the precise choices of the escapes. Then, when he took the moment to strike the decisive and meditated blow, there was no one able to oppose him.
An "exploit" therefore its clearly deserved. But of a span inferior to the trevisano we must, for honor of chronicle, place also Rossignoli and Giacomini authors with him of the decisive escape and splendid comprimari. They didn't win, but this doesn't take anything away from their merits.
It departs compact, and for a pair of kilometers nothing of relief is recorded. All of a sudden Ferro breaks the delay, snaps and detaches himself from the group. His action continues solitary for about fifteen kilometers, but nobody of the favorites gives importance to the sprint of Ferro. On the slope in fact the "solitary" is resumed and for all the second turn nothing more happens.
The return on the salitone provokes however the jolt that changes the face to the race. Vedovello, Rossignoli and Da Ros lengthen gaining a handful of seconds on the chasing group. The three spun in perfect agreement, sucking up other seconds and preparing to face again and for the last time the asperity. The group is now close, Vedovello gives way while Rossignoli and Da Ros do not seem willing to give up their action. Of the pursuers Giacomini manages to get close to the outriders. One last sharp bend and then the finish line is looming: Da Ros has the deadly surge, detaches himself from his companions and wins with some meters from the rivals.
