Giovanni Cordioli wins the first edition of G.P. Recioto della Valpolicella

NEGRAR. 4 April 1961
The amateur Giovanni Cordioli of the Polisportiva CSI B. Gaiga took today on the finishing line of Negrar his brightest affirmation winning in a very clear way, the first edition of the G.P. Recioto della Valpolicella. More than for the advantage acquired on the pursuers, Cordioli, has largely impressed for the ease with which he accumulated at the end more than 3 'of advantage on the wild chasers. In fact, when the hardness of the route, began to weigh on all the best climbers still fighting for a final success, he broke away with a loose and powerful action and without giving the impression of pushing hard, he made a vacuum behind him.

The Cordioli seen today in Negrar has given the impression of an excellent climber as well as of having reached a degree of form such as to leave well to hope for the next competitions.

After the winner deserves praise Sperandio who has fought with commitment, but nothing could do against the overwhelming superiority of the winner in a particularly good day. Good also the test offered from Cornale, Spanish, Foscarini, Zamperioli and Castelletti that to more times have tried to launch themselves to the attack of the fugitive. But every attempt of theirs has been rendered vain from the lacked agreement between the chorus of the chasing group.

Exceptional spectator today Imerio Massignan who declared himself enthusiastic about the combativeness of the competitors but especially about the route that he defined really perfect. Massignan said that the ascent of Masua, repeated five times, has exhausted two thirds of the competitors causing a decisive selection.

Since the start we saw the first attempts and in Domegliara four competitors led by Ceola from Vicenza passed with a few hundred meters of advantage. In the return to Negrar occurred the general rejoining under the thrust of the athletes of GS Bencini and those of UC Veronese. After Negrar begins the ascent of Prun where they are noted Campagnari, Sperandio, Cambioli, Ferrari Vladimiro, Cordioli John and George, Spanish and others. At the top, Campagnari transits with a slight advantage over Cambioli while the others pass in a long Irdian line with minimal gaps*. In the descent various rejoinings occur and in Negrar a group of about twenty runners precedes some small groups slightly detached.

The decision of the race will be along the ramps of the Colle della Masua. At the top of the first passage passes Cambioli followed at short intervals by the others, but in the second lap Cordioli takes the initiative, gains ground and will not be reached anymore. In the back of the field the fight for the places of honor is now restricted between Castelletti, Sattin, Sperandio, Cambioli. Foscarin and Muielli. Cordioli completes the other three laps as dominator.

At the arrival he precedes Sperandio with more than 3': more detached Sattin and others. Excellent under all aspects, the organization of the Polisportiva CSI Verona with the collaboration of the sportsmen of Negrar.
