NEGRAR, 13 April
An irresistible sprint was enough for Enzo Brentegani to conquer his third seasonal success. He won the seventh edition of the "Palio del Recioto" held today in the presence of a large audience. He has clearly regulated the breakaway companion Mingardi. A prestigious success for the winner who, having fallen at the third of the laps of Negrar, had to modify the plans of attack on the climb, limiting himself to maintain the positions of control attacking instead in the final phase together with Mingardi, a boy who has also shown in the upper category to have well deserved the jerseys of Italian champion of the CSI both among the beginners and among the students.
Baroni, another Veronese emigrated, has conducted a beautiful race passing second by a whisker uphill and regulating the group of immediate pursuers in the sprint. Brilliant the test of Castelletti, of Cavazzana, of Biasiolo, of the unlucky Turri and Pasetto and of Morbiato. After twenty laps, with four finishing lines, won two by Cardi and one each by Rosani and Poppi, the race has assumed a very lively tone with long and unlucky rides of Piccin and Tezza and has been delineated on the climb where the best have emerged.
Under the attacks of Masser, Baroni, Tameni, controlled by Brentegani, the small group of the dominators was formed and it was paraded in order with Bergamin, Piccin, Da Ros, Frison, Castelletti, MIngardi, Brambilla, Cavazzana, Morbiato, Bianchi, Turchetti, Sonzogni, Pasetto, Bonan. The descent favored the almost total rejoining, but blocked Morbiato: victim of a fall he was forced to retire.
In the final Masser's attempt was repulsed by Mingardi and Brentegani, who in turn attacked and left unprotected towards the finish line. Migardi tried the long sprint but Brentegani did not let himself be surprised and in the last fifty meters "jumped" the opponent and won clearly. More contrasted the victory of Baroni on the group of the immediate pursuers.
Present the delegate of the F.C.I. Barana, with Pinaroli, commissioner of the F.C.I., the reason Ferroni, president of jury, Dall'Ora, judge of arrival and Antonini director of race.
Excellent from every point of view the organization of the Gruppo sportivo Valpolicella CS.I. with the tireless Raimondo Antolini at the head.
Among the starters also the rainbow winners Verzini and Gonzato who abandoned in the final.
