Lonely arrival of Franceschini

NEGRAR, March 31

In spite of the successful modification of the route, even the 3rd edition of the Trofeo del recioto della Valpolicella, a cycling race for amateurs, proved to be particularly challenging. Especially in the final part and that is in the sixty laps of the local circuit, the race has shown valuable technical and competitive aspects exciting the large audience along the circuit.

They have dominated the athletes of the GS Bencini and has won the neo amateur Licio Franceschini repeating the enterprise of ten days ago on the circuit of the fruit and vegetable Market of Verona. It's particularly surprising the confidence with which this athlete is able to set the race; always among the most active from the beginning he is able to impose his will just when the competition becomes more and more demanding. This is what the former student of Ambrosiana demonstrated in his first two races with the amateurs. Two races two victories.

Well did also Guerra who was betrayed by a tire at a couple of laps from the end after having been paired for the entire race with Franceschini, and so did Renzo Ferrari and the Brescian Pedergnaga who could do nothing against the formidable attack of the team of Bencini. Still a praise to the bearer of the Pedale Scaligero, Zantedeschi, that in this beginning of season has already demonstrated a good regularity; and the tenacious Carletto of the Polisportiva CSI B. Gaiga, but both too lonely in the fight against Bencini.

At the start there were about thirty runners representing a bit 'all the Veneto and Lombardy. As soon as the flag was lowered, the runners threw themselves at full throttle towards S. Ambrogio, heedless of the vagaries of the weather: icy wind and a few bursts of rain. There are numerous stretches and at the top of the climb of S. Ambrogio, where the return road begins, Bolzacchini of CSI Valpolicella is ahead of the group by a few dozen meters. Near Parona a collision truncates the race of Bolzacchini forced to retire followed by his companion Ceradini, for puncture.

All in group towards Negrar. Around a score of runners begin the carousel of the fifty laps of the circuit. Since the first laps the fractionation and to the tenth round four riders have a good margin on the group slightly divided in two, they are Franceschini, Guerra and Ferrari of the GS Bencini and the Brescian Pedergnaga, while in the group is lavished particularly the blue Andreoli intent to protect their companions from the attacks of Zantedeschi, Carletto, Mantovani, Carniel, Casarotto and some other.

To the 25° turn Franceschini and War double the group and they proceed sent toward the arrival. As already mentioned, a few laps from the end, while Franceschini is going all alone towards the conquest of his second seasonal victory, his teammate Guerra is disqualified by a puncture and the change of the tubular forces him to rejoin the immediate pursuers.

Under the arrival banner, after the solitary passage of Franceschini, the thirteen remaining riders in the race finish slightly divided among the applause of the crowd.

Excellent organization of the Polisportiva CSI Verona well assisted by the Traffic Police and the Carabinieri of Negrar. Particularly appreciated the work of the race officials Bellamoli and D'Agostini and the commissioner of the UVI Stanzial.
