Bencini triumphs, Ferrari sprints into the final and wins

With a delay of 45 seconds, a small group arrived, with Corradini sprinting ahead of his teammate Soave. On the pass of Masua Lonardi was among the most combative

NEGRAR, 12 April
With a clear triumph of the GS Bencini riders, the traditional spring events promoted by the municipality of Negrar for the valorisation of Recioto della Valpolicella came to an end. In fact, the bicycle race was the last event on the programme and it can be said that it was more than satisfactory.

Even this year, however, the weather conditions somewhat reduced the number of competitors, although there were 50 riders at the start representing all the major cycling clubs in the Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Lombardy and Emilia, all with their best exponents.

The fifth edition of the Gran Premio Recioto della Valpolicella was won by Renzo Ferrari of the Gruppo Sportivo Bencini followed at 45" by his team-mates Corradini and Soave who in turn preceded Zanin. Lonardi, Albrigo and others all brought to a close a very nerve-wracking race made even harder by the adverse weather conditions.

The competitive spirit of the race was very high; from the very first pedal strokes, all the competitors put all their energy into the race, fighting relentlessly energy and fought relentlessly throughout the entire course. The high selection of competitors present fully justified this. Among the best, as well as the complete Bencini line-up, of course, were Pietro Mattè from Trentino, Mario Vezzaro from Vicenza, the victorious Vilmo Vidotto, another from Trentino, Vito Zanin, and Giovanni Fasoli and Gian Paolo Bolzacchini from Verona.

From the first kilometres, however, the men of Zamperioli have imposed their supremacy with Lonardi always among the most combative and with the various Soave, Corradini, Albrigo and companions ready to take advantage of any opportunity. Lonardi has distinguished himself especially on the hard climb of Masua where he passed among the first if not first overall. On the last lap, first Corradini and then Renzo Ferrari took the lead to arrive all alone under the finish line banner followed at a very short distance from his companion Corradini and Soave with irresistible wriggle won third place with a long sprint.

Good organization of the GS Valpolicella CSI despite the track was among the most challenging with the collaboration of the Traffic Police and the local carabinieri and so the technical direction of the dear entrusted to the jury president Romeo Dall'Ora, the commissioner FCI Brunelli, the arrival judge Lonardoni and the race director Antolini.

At the end of the event: managers and athletes were received in the municipality by the mayor of Negrar prof. Francesco Quintarelli, by the president of the Committee of the Sagra del Recioto Dr. Gino Modena and by Gen. Tullio Recchia.
