168 athletes at the start!

Three years after Matteo Sobrero's victory, the Gp Palio del Recioto - Trofeo C&F Resinatura Blocchi, the 'dream race' now in its 59th edition, returns today. It can boast a roll of honour that contains the names of riders who have been protagonists and winners - after climbing the podium in Negrar di Valpolicella (Vr) - of all the main professional events. The organisational machine of Valpolicella B.E.S.T., in the last months, has worked hard to set up in detail an appointment that has a special place in the hearts of fans and of the territory, of which it represents an important visiting card. Start at 13.30, arrival at about 17.40.

There will be 168 starters at the starting line, representing 42 teams, 20 Italian and 22 foreign - three continents, Europe, America and Asia -, with some of the best performers in the Under 23 category at the start. Many are the possible protagonists along the 147,2 km, starting from the French Romain Gregoire (Groupama-FDJ), who in a few days won both the Liege-Bastogne-Liege and the Giro del Belvedere; attention also to a teammate of the transalpine, the Lazio's Lorenzo Germani. The Croatian Fran Miholjevic (Cycling Team Friuli) is also in the spotlight. He was a major player at the Giro di Sicilia, where he won a stage - giving the black and white team its first success in a race on the Italian professional calendar - and wore the overall leader's jersey.

To keep an eye on the whole quartet of Zalf - Guzzo, Zamperini, Raccani and De Pretto -, as well as the home idol Mattia Petrucci (Colpack Ballan). At Bardiani CSF Faizané the expected protagonists are Lazio's Marcellusi and Treviso's Pinarello, while Colombia's Tierra de Atletas is counting on Gomez. Eolo Kometa will rely mainly on Piganzoli from Lombardy and the Spaniard Tercero, while the leading man of the Tirol KTM is the Slovenian Govekar. Finally, attention also to the Norwegian Staune-Mittet (Jumbo-Visma), the Australian Hopkins (Liubljana), the Friulian Bortoluzzzi (Work Service) and the other home athlete Carpene (General Store).

For the fans who will not be able to follow the race, it will be possible to follow the updates live from the race through the official Facebook page "Palio del Recioto".
